**No email or social login required:** start with an anonymous account in a few clicks — no email address, no Google/GitHub/OIDC — and keep it recoverable with a recovery link or a passkey.

It keeps the simplicity of the original Spliit while fixing its biggest weakness: groups that lived only in the browser and never synced properly across devices. Cloud accounts give you reliable group syncing, stronger tests, and a more maintainable stack — without forcing everyone onto email.
